Favorite Musicals

piercedxxgoddess's picture

Hey everyone, another newbie is here. *waves* I decided to start a discussion about musicals, a subject I love. What's your favorite musical? Why? Personally, mine is RENT. I absolutely LOVE it! I've seen it twice, once in New York and then in Detriot. The music, the plot, the catchy lyrics ("Take me baby, or leave me..."), I adore it all! The characters are the kind of people I strive to be, artistic, passionate, powerful, in love with life, living every second as if it was thier last. The story swells with themes of social rebellion and freedom of expression. Not to mention the great gay couples! What more could you ask for?

Chicago

Yes, Chicago, definitely my favorite. No wait! Cabaret! Hmmm tough choice.

Rent is a lot of fun, but really, Assasins by Sondheim is the musical to end all musicals. Haven't heard of it? Well, it's a bit of a cult type show. Sondheim at his best.

Hmmm...

I'd have to go with the twisted and strange and Beautiful. "Hedwing and the Angry Inch" or "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". No worries:)

RENT all the way

RENT by far is the best! I've seen it 3 times, and each time it just gets better and better. All the music is awsome and the plot by itself is just awesome too. I'm really not a big musical fan, but i love RENT and can't seem to get enough of it!

Fave Musicals

Moulin Rouge and Westside Story. I love the visual and musical chaos in Moulin Rouge, and it almost made me cry. Westside Story is just awesome, nuff said. I must rent Hedwig And The Angry Inch, I've heard all kinds of opinions about it, and I want to form my own. Ditto Chicago.

pixies_in_the_underworld's picture

I was brought up on musicals, so...

Westside Story, Chicago, Easter Parade, Guys and Dolls, The Producers, Rocky Horror, South Pacific, The Wizard of Oz, Meet me in St. Louis, White Christmas, Singin' in the Rain, and strangely for some inexplicable reason I can't stand Moulin Rouge...I think it's because they didn't have any original songs in the whole score, and the fact that an illegal alien gave me tb when I was 13 months (totally fine now, though!), so her dying of it kind of takes away the magic and tragedy of the love story.

Into the Woods!

I love anything by Stephen Sonheim, but Into the Woods takes the cake, because of its magic and wit and music. God I love that musical.

1. Rent
2. Wicked
3. Phantom of the Opera
