How are you, Mouth? It's Ears and Brain here we felt that it was time we sat
down together and went through a few things. Call them ground rules if it
makes you feel happier. We've been working together for a long time now,
Mouth, haven't we?"
"Sure have, Brain."
"Except, Mouth, we haven't really. For some reason you seem to think that it's perfectly okay to just go off without consulting us. The chain of command seems to have
broken down somewhat in recent months. I'll admit, Mouth, that you always
had, shall we say an independent streak, but recently you seem to be working
"Don't follow that one, Brain."
"No, Mouth, that's my point exactly. You don't follow - you just charge off
and start flapping before Ears has finished listening and before I even get a
chance to think it over. You're off and neither of us know what you're doing."
"What's the problem then, Brain?"
"Mouth, sometimes you don't need to do all the heavy work. Have you thought
that it might just be nice to sit down, smile, have a cup of coffee and let
Ears and myself take a bit of the load. Like last night at work.
"Don't see the problem, myself, Brain. Only trying to help."
"Yes, Mouth, but was it a help?"
"Um, what you getting at, Brain?"
"You don't seem to realise that even when you go off doing all this work on
the side that we get blamed for it too. We can't just pretend that we're not
part of the same team. Sometimes, Mouth, you're a bit of a liability."
"Aha, so you don't like the things I say then. Is that what you're saying?"
"It's not so much that we don't like them it's just that you don't really give
us a chance to be part of the team. In fact, I was thinking this morning that
the only difference between you and the Channel Tunnel is that eventually you
may hear French spoken in the Channel Tunnel."
"Look, Brain, I do the jokes."
"No, Mouth, we should do them together. And can I just point out to you,
Mouth, while we're on the subject that you've got a volume control. Can you
try using it?"
"I was, Brain."
"Sorry, Mouth, Ears here, but when you thought you were swearing under your
breath - the volume control was definitely wonky. Best thing in your case
is to forget the whispering option - you know that you can't do it."
"So, guys, what is it you're telling me?"
"For once in your life, Mouth, just SHUT UP."
Mouth slinks away with dejected look.
