OverlappingElvis's picture

The list goes on...

* Hero, for oh so many reasons.
* Hamster Dance, because this kid I know used to play that song incessantly wherever he could find a boombox and it was bad enough the first time, but after a few dozen plays... Jesus, that song needs do die.
* Pretty much anything by Creed. I have little patience for anything quite that earnest.

I actually can't think of very many things right now. I think that's probably a good thing. Maybe I'm being more positive. Or maybe I'm just tired and sick and can't think of any songs.

OHH i forget them- they suck..sorry if you like creed :(

What sucks now.

All songs start to suck that have been played on the radio sufficiently frequently. I will list a few songs that actually induced nausea the first time I heard them. Many of them still induce nausea now.

There's a song out there that goes "Because of you..." and it's some bitch singing Whitney Houston-like about how she "learned to stay on the safe side" because some guy dumped her. (Most women would have another guy at the ready, in case of this situation. That she didn't suggests that she may be highly undesireable for some easily-discoverable reason.) The song really sucks, and I wouldn't mind if I never heard it ever again, from now till my deathday.

Because I avoid the radio (because radio broadcasters are so good at picking only the very worst songs to play, and they play them in loop mode for years on end), I must stretch back pretty far to think of other songs that I hate as much as the above. I hate any song where a male singer makes his voice sound like that of a woman. A song about Superman having "somthing special inside of [him]" comes to mind here. No doubt the "special" thing inside of him is a dildo shoved up his ass (or maybe it's Lex Luthor's cock). After pulling it out, he then engages in coprophilia with the shit-stained phallus.

On the topic of cocks, the Blink-182 song about your mom sucking my cock blows goats. So do all other songs by that band.

I hurled a good one when I heard Tal Bachman squealing out his womanly tune that goes, "She's so hiiiiiiiiiiigh! High above me!"

All songs about Superman or other similar comic-book characters suck, including the one mentioned above, the song "Kryptonite", and that "Hey Now You're an All-Star" song, found on the soundtrack of a movie about superheroes that is even dumber than the song. Most, if not all, of the songs made by the same bands that made those two songs also suck to the point of vomiting.

Creed is broken up now, but they were very good at missing the good chords in favor of shitty-sounding ones, and tossing corny Christian lyrics into their music. All those who have heard the song "Higher" realize that it is a song about the Christian concept of Heaven. That song blows bulls, horses, and swine in addition to goats.

That brings me to country music. "Letters from Home" sucks. So does that one song about a man an woman who both commit suicide in their respective mobile homes, because each spent years believing the other didn't love them. I can't remember specific lyrics on that one. Not all country music sucks, but I'm only mentioning the names and identifying characteristics of songs that do suck.

Female singers seem to be pretty good at producing vomit-inducing music. Long ago there was a particularly sickening song that went "You already won me over, in spite of me, etc." It might have been sung by Alanis Morrisette, but any of the white, teenage singers of the day would have sounded the same. And while I'm on the subject of Morrisette, her song about irony that contains no examples thereof is a biohazard. It may cause the Avian flu to spread among humans, resulting in an epidemic of vomiting that will not end during our lifetimes. It must be permanently removed from all radio playlists at once.

While I don't care for Britney Spears, her music isn't to the point that it makes me puke.

I don't see why so many on this board hate rap. A real rap song beats any of the aforementioned songs. For some reason, _real_ rap is almost never played on the radio, even on stations that claim to be pitching to Black markets (on those stations, the "lovely lady lump" song, and the "don't you wish your girlfriend" song, both of which suck, and both of which are sung by caucasians, are heard far more often than anything that resembles rap).

I was brought here by an attempt to Google the "lovely lady lump" song to find out just what part of the body the phrase "lady lump" is supposed to refer to. I found no answers. Obviously, this page only appeared near the top because it's a blog, and blogs have a sick way of getting irrelevant content to the top of Google search results.

"you raise me up so i can stand on mountains"--that wouldn't happen to be the song You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban would it? As for myself, I don't like christian music

I too hate Heaven by Los Lonely Boys

I also can't bring myself to like Eminem's Like Toy Soldiers. I'm an Eminem fan but I just don't like what he did to the original Toy Soldiers song by Martika. Maybe it's just that I don't like people screwing around with my beloved 80s music

tarni's picture

*wonders* I don't like Eminem

*wonders* I don't like Eminem, but my sister does, so I've heard their songs over and over. (I admit, a couple are okay.) However, I do like the chorus bit of the Toy Soldiers song, the singing. Is that what the original song was like? Because if it is, I'm going to find it somehow!

For other stuff, I hate most rap, hip-hop, and country stuff. Rock is more my scene, I'll listen to pop although it's not my first choice, metal is okay occassiaonlly and the right sort. Alternative is quite interesting, but I've only run across a few, and they've been quite different, so that genre(or non-genre?) is very selective methinks. Ocassionally an instrumental piece is very nice to listen to. I like to fall asleep to them.

Instead of songs, I'll just post bands that make me vomit, or, when convenient, genres:

Slipknot (oh dear god I hate them), Creed, Nickelback, Hoobastank, Staind, Puddle of Mudd, Trapt, Cradle of Filth (the worst band name of all time), Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Linkin Park (actually, they're very talented, they just don't use it), almost all rap (I like some of the really old stuff like Run DMC and Public Enemy), modern R&B (except Joss Stone and Alicia Keys), 80's hair bands (like Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, etc., all except for Def Leppard, who are awesome), Van Halen (I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar), Styx, Foreigner, Journey, REO Speedwagon, all boy bands, all wannabe-diva people like Britney Spears, etc., but especially Jessica Simpson (because she is disgusting and her music sucks too), the Steve Miller Band (sorry, they just annoy me), Lynyrd Skynyrd (they have, what, four good songs?), all country except for Willie Nelson and the Indigo Girls, if they even count as country, Widespread Panic . . . oh god, I could go on and on.

Darkest Dream's picture

hey NovaCat

What do you like then in music?
I'm curious coz the only things left are classic and country not that i have something against that ;)

Yeah, I'd have to second that... it seems there's quite a bit you don't like... Perhaps you're just picky.

It seems to me you chose one band out of every genre of music and labeled all the others as poser types...

Zarylya's picture

I love music, but there are some artists or songs I can't bear!
I hate Diana Krall's music, 50 cents's music, and most of the rappers music. I don't have anything against them, but some singers aren't able to make a song popular without being half-nude(if it's not more!) I think that when you have talent, people should admire you because of this talent of yours, not 'cause you have a lovely little butt!!! I'm talking, of course, about some american stars...Anyway, these are my opinions...( sorry if my english isn't that good, this isn't my first language!)

Whispering Rebel's picture

Ashlee Simpson: Just imitating her sister

all rap sucks...cant spell crap without rap!

Aedyn's picture

Yeah, that song's Josh Groban

Yeah, that song's Josh Groban... or however you spell that shit...

Anyway, the all-time, oh-my-fucking-god-kill-me song that I absolutely and positively despise is Vindicated by Dashboard Confessional. I can take a little emo music but this is just disgustingly overdone in that genre. I HATE that song...

Oh, anything rap usually gets me up in a knot. So bad... so bad... so bad...

Although I do like some R&B and the occasional rap song that means more than sex, drugs, kicking the shit out of somebody and other such cock-waving nonsense.

ie: I like Changes by Tupac a lot. There's some real poetry there.

BTW- I happen to like Creed, but I do understand why people would shy away. The pretensious idiot who sings the songs annoys me to no end, but I can enjoy his music without liking the man. Anyway, I can't listen to them overlong, I feel my mind melting away if I do...

Anyways, I get kinda disappointed with some modern music, for example, Taking Back Sunday, (most)Yellowcard, Less Than Jake, etc. There's just so much mediocrity...

But just about anything else I can get into very easily.

You can never beat time, but you can sure put up a hell of a fight.

I absolutely cannot stand Shiny Happy People by REM any absulotely ALL country music (not folk, country)

Other than that tho, I'm pretty good at tolerating. Although, rock and punk are much more tolerated than poprock (actually, I can't tolerate poprock...I think I hate pop rock even more than pop itself...and rap too, I can't stand most of rap, cuz rap is about rhymes and if your rhymes don't have a substance you shouldn't be rhymin' at all)

I think I'm done now.

I actually didn't like Yellow

I actually didn't like Yellowcard until I saw them live. I was really impressed with how good they are. I'd say they're probably among the best emo has to offer.

Possibly the one song that makes me want to puke EVERY TIME I hear it is "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's so . . . pretentious, which I realize is ironic in a couple of ways because A)it's supposedly about being a 'simple man', and B)I am obsessed with progressive rock, which is hardly unpretentious. But seriously, this song goes on and on, in Southern Rock Power Ballad fashion, about how you need to live as a 'simple man' and 'remember that there is someone up above' and so on, and grow up in a small town where everyone knows everyone and that being simple means you're automatically honest and moral and on and on with bullshit. Oh god. It's so preachy and full of connotations that it manages to be whinily pretentious while denigrating pretentiousness. I want to DESTROY the radio every time I hear that song.

Aedyn's picture

OMG! I love that song! lol, m

OMG! I love that song! lol, maybe we're just on opposite sides of the spectrum...

And Yellowcard... I dunno... they're one of those bands that can go either way for me really... One day I hate them, another I like em. But really, the former days occur more than the latter.

BTW- Nova, you like Dream Theater? Or Rush? I dunno... you seem to be talking about progressive rock a bit.

You can never beat time, but you can sure put up a hell of a fight.

I love prog-rock...I even love its cheesy pretentiousness:)

DreamTheater kicks ass! Also, Liquid Tension Experiment is some great stuff to make love to:)

I can honestly see why people would hate the song "Simple Man". I love it though. It was one of the first songs I learned on guitar, so it has a special place in my heart. Also, you can find me strumming it when I am so piss-assed drunk I can't play anything else:)

But I can say that I can't stand rap, and most rock, and metal (is that a genre?), and country, and R&B, and whatever else "in vogue" music I don't know of. Maybe I'm just close-minded. I find it really hard to just listen to the radio. It hurts my ears. Don't even mention the bands you listen to, I'll have no idea what you're talking about. Umm...I guess I'm more of a classical geek. Cello makes me cry (in a good way).

That one Celiene (sp?) Dion chick and "My Heart Will Go On." Good God, I can't believe that some people had the bad taste to request that song at their funerals. Hopefully death will grant them more wisdom than their lives did.

While I'm at it, I'm not quite sure why Josh Groban is so popular. Sure, I'd give him the f*cking of his life if he appeared in my bed, but honestly kids, he's a BARITONE--and a LYRIC baritone at that. Meh. It's enough to drive me to drinking.

It sucks if it's country or hip-hop, with exceptions. Can't really stand too much about some hip-hop music. Maybe it be the themes in the music (which are often misogynistic and homophobic), the or the fact that to me dressing with a lot of bling and overly baggy clothing doesn't look good on guys. However, some of the Black Eyed Peas songs are good.

I used to like Linkin Park. I liked all songs on Hybrid Theory (LP's first album), but only some of the songs they did afterwards. Then of course there are a thousand and one bands with similar sounds, all of which are good, like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nickelback, Hoobastank and Goo Goo Dolls. Of course they sound different, but it is more likely that you will like the others if you like one. Moby is also good. The avenues to explore other genres of music are quite limited where I am.

I also like some musicals, like Phantom of the Opera, largely because I can play it on piano while I sing.

I liked Green Day's older stuff, Basket Case used to be my most played song on my MP3, but I'm getting a bit sick of them now.

There's a song in England by a guy called Akon. It's Mr. Lonely and features a chipmunk style voice singing in the background, "Mr. Lonely, I'm soooo lonely," which is the worst song I have heard for a while. A lot of RnB style music drives me crazy too- but I could rant for ages about that so I won't bother here for fear of driving you all away.

I used to be a massive Good Charlotte fan as well, but I've got really annoyed with them now- not sure why but the songs grate on my nerves.
