The Man

Hi kids,

For this week's exciting new journal entry, I've decided to focus in on what's been going on in my musical world. It's been dynamic, full of emotion, and certainly very interesting, to say the least. It seems as if though the world is toying with me just because it can. And it's doing a very good job of it....

First, I'll start off by saying that I'm really quite worried about the musical that I'm conducting. Sure, I'm sure it'll go fine in the end, but we're in some scary times right now. Without going into all the crazy details, I will say that some musicians aren't as excited about this project as they once were, and that causes me great concern, especially considering that we haven't even had a rehearsal yet! But I think that we'll make it through this tough time--I just wish it weren't so stressful.

In other news, I just recently found out that the choir director of the church choir that I normally sing with got fired. As is the case with things like this, it all turned out to be politics. At rehearsal on Thursday, the senior pastor came and spoke with the choir and told us what was going on. There were some very angry people (including myself), and there were some very pointed questions asked.

Sadly, I must say that SOMEONE is lying to us. The stories of the pastor and the ex choir director (whom I spoke with yesterday on the telephone) are in conflict, and I just can't bring myself to figure out what on earth would compell one of them to lie. And even more saddening, I fear that the fibber in this case is the pastor. But, since she wasn't allowed to go into many details since this is a personnell issue, we may never know for sure.

To further rock my musical world, it turns out that there is a little bit of politics being played in the gay men's chorus. And again, I'm afraid there are a few non-truth tellers in the mix. In order to address certain occurrences that have happened within the organization in the past few weeks, we had a special meeting an hour before rehearsal last Monday. Again, I'd rather not go into details, but this is an instant where I (amongst others, as well) asked some very pointed questions (although I must say, mine were particularly pointed and passive-aggressive) and where it got so heated that people were at one point shouting at one another.

In the end, I don't think a lot of questions were answered, and ultimately, there was some damage done with respect to the morale of the chorus. It was nice, however, to start rehearsal after that because as those of you who sing or play know, music can be very healing in that respect.

So it's been quite crazy, lately. And I just found out that my voice teacher is moving at the end of the summer, and so I don't get to study with him for very much longer. :( Hopefully I can find someone who will continue to guide me as well as my current teacher.

I suppose after bringing all this bad news, I should think up of some good news to share....

Work is going just fine as of late. I've been still doing pretty good in tips, and I've been able to work a lot of hours, which is good. It's nice to be able to walk away with some money at the end of the night, even if it's just $50. Of course, sometimes we get spoiled and want more, but when you look at it, waiting tables is a very good way to make some fast money. My co-workers are all fabulous, and as I may have said before, I have some really cute bussers that work for me, and even a cute manager whom I adore. Yeah, work is fine. :)

I think that's it for me, kids. I've gotta take a nap and then get ready for work. Have a nice rest of the weekend, and as always, behave and be nice, so you don't turn out like me.

Michael
