Next Tuesday is National Coming Out Day (YAY!!! special Huzzaa for all those who stand up and scream it on tuesday) anyhoot, I being the "real nice guy" I am, I got opted in to run the discussion group for that day... being that it is National Coming Out Day (YAY!!!!!!!) any of yalls have any good idea how to run the group.....

(its a group that discuses how to solve various lgbtq(and whatever other letters they add on to it now.... but 5 is where i stop) issues, like school violence/harassment... as well as gives "support" to people in that cold dreary closet. )

Any ideas would be appreciated......

Fuck the closet. Hmm, I don't think I'll come out that day. Most everyone who is my friend knows anyway. It's not so much fear (although that is a motivation) as much as it's the fast that my sexual orientation is not anybody else's business and they don't want to hear about it.

Q - "What is your sexual preference?"
A - "I have no sexual preference."

Well the most active person in the entire midwest happens to be one of my teachers... she sugested just trying to find out how open people are, like letting them line up in order of how open they are..... but like, how could i lead people to the general topic of comming out, cause in the group we have completely open steriotypical gays, and we have people where, no one, and i mean no one could guess it.....
my goal is to try and lead the conversation back to comming out, and why/how do people do it.....

A thought

Running a discussion group for NCOD sounds like fun! I would suggest that instead of discussing people's coming out stories (which is trite), I think people should discuss people, organizations, and other resources that have been helpful (or that will be helpful when they come out) since their coming out. It starts a great discussion (at least I think), but it also would benefit the people involved, as well.

Having someone compile a list of the local organizations and resources that are discussed during the group would be prudent, as well.

just another day

call me anti-gay if you want! but i see no point to this day, why do people need a special day? just because we have national comming out day, does it really make it easier, will people be more accepting you think? I mean if some people see it as a safe day, fine I guess, but what about the next day? Life is not just gonna respect you for one day. I really see no point in the day myself, yes it's another day for us all! I don't mean to sound so down on it but when i think about it doesn't really make a difference I think
