gender construction

aviva's picture

i'm not a girl. the mutilized gender of walking vaginas, constantly crossing or spreading their legs. deriving their only power from manipulation - what they can make you do to or for them. i am not a girl. i wasn't born to be fucked. i wasn't born to be second. i am lilith, hava -not eve. i can't breathe in this room full of the lies they've told me. pink is not a color i chose.

the woman identified woman - radaclesbians 1970
ways of seeing:men looking at women - john berger
a room of one's own - virginia woolf
the story of joan of arc
the myth of lilith
the book of j, the bible
the awakening - kate chopin
the vagina monologues and the good body - eve ensler
the semiotics of sex - jeanette winterson (somewhat)

note to self: free your fucking mind.

That is exactly why I always

That is exactly why I always hated those nineteenth-century novels my friends loved (P&P, Wuthering Heights, etc). And stupid idiotic TV shows like The Bachelor. I can't stand that whole way of thinking. God, can you imagine how great life--and history, and politics, and foreign policy, and religion--would be if women had been the empowered race?

This above all, to thine own self be true.
~Polonius, Hamlet, 1.3.78
