Coming Soon To Oasis...ME!

Anonymous's picture

Hi Guys!

Well, as you no doubt know by now, Oasis is undergoing some big changes. One of those changes is that Jeff has offered me my own forum. I'm happy to accept the challenge because helping GLBT teens and young adults is something I very much want to do. I've been thinking about the best way to help, however, and I'm finding difficult to decide. On the one hand, I thought some sort of advice forum might be good, since I have been out there in the trenches for 41 years and have lots (and lots) of experience with lots (and lots) of issues. Then I thought maybe an ask Jeeves kind of thing would be good, for the same reason. I've been to many places and done many things, and the things I don't already know, I'm really good at finding out. But then I thought, well, you are a writer after all. Maybe you should have some kind of writer's forum. I tossed all three ideas around for awhile, trying to decide among them, without any success.

Then yet another idea struck me. Why pick one? Why don't I just make myself available for you guys for all of those things? It sounded way better to me than having to decide which one to do, so I think I'm gonna go with it. You need advice, or the answer to a question? I'll not only be using my own experience, I'll be consulting with other great minds as well, especially for questions specific to young women (cuz I am not, nor was I ever a young woman).

I'll also be writing about...writing, and doing some fun writing projects with you guys. Nothing as big as next year's the Samers Guild Project (see my earlier posts about that), but little exercises to give all you writers and poets some practice, criticism and insights into the craft of writing. Again, I'll be consulting other writers to give you their perspectives as well.

Now, the success of this forum will all depend on you. You are, after all, the reason I'm here. The forum will be debuting soon after Jeff finishes transforming the site. Then it's up to you to take advantage of it, and steer it in the direction you want it to go. I'll do my best to instigate projects and discussions, but ultimately, it'll be in your hands. You guys will be the driving force behind everything I do here.

I'm telling all this now not only to give you a heads up, but to give you the chance beforehand to let me know your thoughts. Does this sound good to you? Is there something else you'd like for me to consider? I know most of you know little about me, so it may be too early, but I wanted to give you a voice, even before I begin. I'll be writing an column to introduce myself and tell you all the dirt about me when I debut the forum. You'll find I'm not a person that minces words or holds back my opinions, nor do I shy away from delicate or taboo subjects. So anything is fair game as far as I'm concerned, unless and until Jeff's lawyer tells me otherwise. :-)

I think I'm going to call my forum The Clubhouse. That sounds to me like a place where you can kick back, relax and be yourself. I like being myself. From what I've already seen here, so do you.

Questions? Comments? Pessimistic Predictions? Scathing Criticism? Your two cents is both welcomed and encouraged. I'll be puttering around in here until the forum debuts, so fire away.

what will be the difference

what will be the difference to the "general" Oasis forum?

We have all been injured, profoundly. (Donna Haraway)
I Am Out, Therefore I Am. (Okay, mostly.)

Well the biggest difference

Well the biggest difference is that this forum will be hosted, whereas the general forum is not. So you can be certain that you'll get an answer and you know from whom the answer is coming. It's not better than the general forums per se, it's just another source for people who have questions or problems. As far as writing goes, there really isn't any critiquing on this site at the moment. I'll be doing some of that also with little writing projects. Again, what this forum becomes will largely depend on what you guys do with it.

Nice

Nice but I think it would have to stay entirely as personal adivce. No light questions about opinions on something, but the pesonal problems- they would do well there

Well, true, we don't want to

Well, true, we don't want to get bogged down with "Is Clay Aiken Really Gay" discussions ( of course he is) or stuff like that. But there are other things that you mights want to know that don't necessarily pertain to you personally at the moment. I don't want to rule any subject out across the board. If things get silly, I'll move on to another topic, but I want everyone to be able to hit me up for whatever's important to them.

As far as the writing goes, I'm very excited to work with you guys on writing not only here but also in the Samers Guild Project. There's bound to be some spillover between that project and what I do on this site, but that's fine.

Keep your opinions and ideas coming guys. As I said, I'm here for you, so I want to hear your thoughts.

I think that's pretty

I think that's pretty cool--especially the writing bit. I found Oasis 'cause it was advertised as a writing community for GLBT youth; I found something that, although amazingly awesome, was not what I expected in terms of writing stuff available. So having more of that on Oasis is cool...

Wow. I don't think I make any sense. I'll just leave now. :)

Soon?

I'm excited about this, but it's advertised as 'coming soon'? When exactly is soon? Don't get us all excited for a long wait!

I'm going to talk to Jeff

I'm going to talk to Jeff about setting this up right after New Years, but it might depend on when exactly he's going to split the site in two. I'll keep you posted. It may take me a bit of time to get it up to speed, but I'll try to get a small project going right away. I've also got the Samers Guild Project coming up in late January, and the second book of my trilogy to finish. Whew! It's going to be a busy 07 for me.

Patience. It won't be too much longer.

I look into your eyes
and see that your colors changing
I wish that I could change with you
and when you said forever did you mean it to be true?
or was it another tale from you?
Thats cool. I would deffinitley like to take advantage of that. I'm glad jeff is having you do that you help a lot of us out.

...

Split this site in two? ... I guess I'm behind the times. What's going to happen exactly?

Oh heavens. Jeff posted a

Oh heavens. Jeff posted a long thing about exactly how it was all going to work a little while back. Since I don't have anything to do with it, I can't really fill you in. At some point, as I understand it, the Journals and the Magazine type content will be two different sites, but I really don't know the whole skinny. In any case, it doesn't have a whole lot to do with my forum. I'm just waiting until Jeff has time to take a breath before I talk to him about getting my thing set up. But no worries. I'll chase him down right after the new year and see what's what.
