Did you know that before the Civil War marriages between African Americans weren't recognized by the government?

It just makes you think.

and until about 30 years ago, in most states, marriages between people of different races weren't legal, either.

Did you know that the United States is ranked Twelfth in the world in terms of its Human Development Index (HDI)? Did you also know that the United States is ranked Twenty-Third according to the Satisfaction With Life Index (SWL)?

Three of the Top Ten HDI nations allow same-sex marriage.
One out of the remaining seven recognize all foreign marriages.
Three of the remaining six offer same-sex unions providing an equivalence to marriage.
One of the remaining three currently has same-sex unions providing an equivalence to marriage in some regions and is currently debating nation-wide same-sex marriage.
One of the remaining two is currently debating nation-wide same-sex marriage or an equivalence.

Seven of the Top Ten SDL nations fit into at least on of the categories above.

I used wikipedia articles

I used wikipedia articles concerning SWL and HDI and compared them to articles concerning gay marriage. From there I compiled the facts.
