Prayers for Bobby...

I'm kind of surprised by this... but the article I wrote more than 13 years ago, and five months before Oasis was officially launched about the book "Prayers for Bobby," has gotten a lot of amazing comments from people who watched the Lifetime movie recently...

Many are from people outside the "youth" scope of this site, writing some pretty powerful comments.

It's really worth checking them out... makes me interested to check out the movie. It's on my iPod waiting...

Also, just as an FYI, your review for that movie is what got me looking at the site, and the only reason I made an account is because I wanted to comment on it. XD So that review helped in more ways than one.

Well...

That's a review of the book, but glad you found it. We like having you here.

I guess it pays to just leave something online for 14 years with a fixed URL. If you Google Prayers for Bobby, that page is listed *before* the Amazon page for the book, heh.

You'd better start booking

You'd better start booking speaking engagements Jeff. This could be your time. Sure seems like serendipity to me.

I'm thinking we're going to need an "Oasis for Parents" if all this keeps up - kind of a more Bohemian alternative to PFLAG? What do you think. I'm up for it.

Yes, I've been following the comments. It's becoming quite a phenomenon. I second the recommendation that everyone check it out. Many of the comments are from people of my generation or earlier, and are a great history lesson about how difficult it was back then. If you didn't live in a major city before the internet came along (and that hasn't been all that long), being a gay kid usually meant being truly and utterly ALONE in a sense that I don't think any subsequent generation will be able to completely comprehend. Since I work with you guys every day, I know that there is still lots of pain and prejudice out there, but society has begun to change, and now that almost any kid can get to a computer, they can find out that there are a lot of others out there who are going through the same thing they are. That information, to some, has probably meant the difference between hope and despair. It would have made a hell of a difference to me when I was 15.
