The Hurdy-Gurdy- A Poem

Tophat's picture

The Hurdy Gurdy player plays outside my window,

day and night and day and night.

The Hurdy Gurdy Player begs for food from me,

day and night and day and night.

I hear his music haunting me,

day and night and day and night.

I never fed him, never clothed him,

day and night and day and night.

Nobody ever looked at him,

day and night and day and night.

His song is never cheerful,

day and night and day and night.

It mourns and cries for something I don't have,

day and night and day and night.

The droning strings like humming in my ears,

day and night and day and night.

But still I never help the Hurdy Gurdy Player,

day and night and day and night.

And he shall play for me until I die,

day and night and day and night.
