The woman who plays Rita on Dexter is now playing a lesbian on Desperate Housewives. They've even hinted, and I think said, that she'll have a relationship with Katherine, one of the housewives. I'm definitely going to try and start watching it now because I watched her parts on Youtube and she seems like an interesting and likable character. What pisses me off though, is the ignorant fools on the DH Facebook page; some people are writing all these nasty things saying the show better not develop a gay relationship because they are sick of TV shows shoving gay people down their throat. It's like, wtf? "shoving"? It's like please, people, we exist. Get over it! God forbid we be represented in a few TV shows. Idiots.

Moreover, I don't go around saying stupid ignorant crap like that. A good character, is a good character; it doesn't matter what their skin colour, their religion, age, sexuality, gender, ect.

I should just start going around complaining that people are shoving straight couples down OUR throats. lol, I'm sure that would go over well.

Hmm...

Yeah, what are the odds of a catty, over the top soap created by a gay man including a gay relationship in the mix... it's crazy!

According to them it is...

I've seen this complaining before on Fan Pages for Grey's Anatomy and Flash Forward. I wish people would just get over it and accept that TV shows include all types of characters.

I always LOL when they threaten to stop watching the shows if they continue with gay relationships. I remember this one woman saying she wouldn't continue watching Flash Forward because they are pushing the "gay agenda" on everyone. I LOL'd and then just got sad that people out there actually believe this bulls---.

Well...

Once you believe in a talking snake, anything else is easy to believe, really.

I never actually read any message boards about shows I enjoy. Probably a good idea. ;-)

Hah...

Very true on both points.

I'm grateful...

To shows like this, and the L word, and 6 feet under (my favorite).
Because people WILL get angry, and viewership may be hurt, but they still show them, often in a positive light.
It sucks.
Most people, as accepting as they are, simply don't want to watch gay sex scenes. It's unfortunate, but it's the reason we're a minority.
Just take a deep breath, and remind yourself there are stupid, stupid people in the world, and arguing with them or getting mad won't fix that.

Eh...

The Internet makes any small fringe seem like it has a voice. You rarely see any of this stuff matter as far as advertising or viewership. It will bring in as many gay fans as it will lose homophobic fans, and gays have more money so they're better for advertisers anyway.

Uhh... I think gays are a minority merely because the majority of people are heterosexual?!

Yeh...

I also caught that accidental inaccuracy as well. You just stay up much later than me...

And I'm confident that swimmerguy readily acknowledges this slip...

Yeah,

You're right about the sex thing. My parents watched Will & Grace but were disgusted anytime Will even kissed a boyfriend. But that's not what these people are complaining about. They just don't want to see us on TV period. They see it as if we're are "shoving" the idea that gay people and gay relationships are okay. When, clearly, they don't feel that way. Eh..I just find it sickening, that's all. I don't really get upset, I just get disappointed that there are so many ignorant single-minded people out there.

And I'm also so thankful to all the shows that include gay characters. We are pretty lucky these days that we get actually quite a few of them. Skins, Degrassi, South of Nowhere, Will & Grace, Grey's Anatomy, Flash Forward, soap operas (even though I don't personally watch them.), ect.

A Taboo, However...

...seems to persist against any portrayal of the young coming to terms with their gay identity. I haven't seen Degrassi or Fame (is that the correct name?) in years... but these shows seemed to be making inroads.

I hope that day is not too far away. But can you envisage the reaction of the professional homophobes? Truly sad.

lol

I remember when I was in high school I was spiteful towards heterosexuals, I remember when ever something pissed me off, like a teacher, I'd sit with my friends at lunch and whine and complain, "OMG did you hear Mrs ____ today, like fuck, no one handed in the assignment so obviously she didn't hand it out, getting mad at us was so fucking straight" yes I use to say straight like everyone else said gay XD

but seriously they are making a lesbian girl on desperate housewives?! fuck I am sooooooooooooo gonna start watching then!!!!!!! but ya if anyone is shoving any sexuality down anyone's throats it's the heterosexuals cause how many of us grew up thinking homosexuality was wrong because all we have saw and were taught was heterosexuality? anyways SOOOOO not going there lol
