I finished reading Rose of No Man's Land by Michelle Tea, today. It suckssss. Not the book, but the fact that it's over. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm even fine with the ending (that's very rare). Now it's over and I have to search for another book to read. I'm actually rather afraid to go back to the Young Adult books after reading Rose. Because it was so good and a lot fuller than the YA books I've read. I've got Annie on My Mind, which I shall attempt to read, but I'm afraid that nothing's going to be quite like Rose.
I loved the way that it was written, and I actually really liked the main character, Trisha. Even though she was quite naive, and I wanted to say "Noooo!!!" and warn her not to do half the things that she did. She was very likable. I also liked that it wasn't all about the so called "love story". In the first half of the book you really get to know her and her home life. Then it descends into this one great/crazy night she has with this girl, Rose. Though, I never really got into her. Overall it was just more detailed, and the situations she got into were more original than a lot of the generic crap that's in the other books I've read.
I wish my library had more of Michelle Tea's books, I'm really curious as to what her other books are like. Oh, well. I guess I'll have to keep searching for good books. Ones with good gay characters.
