is there some psychological meaning?

centerfielder08's picture

is there some psychological meaning behind those posts that will get dozens of comments compared to those that get none , but merely read twice or three times until its no longer one of the top ten recent posts and then never gets noticed again, hiding in its own fate.?

Comments

I've been wondering the same

I've been wondering the same thing (probably because, although I don't really want to admit it to myself, I secretly crave comments). I have noticed a few patterns:

Everybody likes Super Duck and comments on whatever she posts, no matter how pointless. This is probably due to a combination of long habit and Super Duck's charming writing.

Often the really abstract journals go uncommentedupon, probably because no one knows what to say or wants to interrupt some profound personal moment with some silly irrelevant comment. But if someone dares to comment on one of the super abstract posts, others will likely follow.

Posts with a clearly stated question at or near the end generally get at least a few responses to that question.

If controversy can be found and disagreement can be made, many comments will ensue.

Posts documenting a personal but generally not pivotal event that has ended, leaving no significant or immediate questions or uncertainties for the near future, are less likely to get comments. (This is where mine generally fall....)

I think mine fail at that

I think mine fail at that last point as well.

And yes, I hate to admit it, but I long for comments, too.
:) Thank you for commenting and i'm glad i'm not alone with this feeling

Just because something

Just because something doesn't get comments doesn't mean nobody has read it, it just means that they either don't know what to say or don't have anything to say.

If you have a question towards the end of your post (even if it's something silly) people will usually comment.

...Or if you're Super Duck. But that's just because everyone secretly wants to kidnap her... :P

for the record,....

i would only kidnap her if i was in need of a best friend(btw, where does she live, and could someone tell her that the truck sitting outside is nothing to worry about....:P)

Well well well

Pretty much as I expected, most other people are secretly thinking the same things I'm thinking. I thought as much.
I'm never exactly sure how many comments a journal will get, one time I wrote one and was like "I believe I just wrote a blockbuster here", and lo and behold the next day it had 27 or somesuch comments. I forget which journal this was.
But sometimes I'm surprised because of how many or how few it gets.
Sometimes there are journals I don't read, and yes, like everyone apparently, I love to read and comment on everything Super Duck writes.

Oh, and I think she lives in Mississippi...

... MacAvity pretty much has it down.

nothing is permitted. everything is allowed.

I think...

There are also site activity cycles, so the same 5 users will post and be on the site at the same time every day, so they start commenting on each other's journals every day etc., etc.

Asking questions at the end is the biggie, though.

Pat...

Returned briefly after finishing his most recent book, then said he was leaving again, this time forever.

Thank you...hadn't seen that

Thank you...hadn't seen that post until you mentioned it just now, Jeff. So thanks.

If anyone has any contact with Pat, and without being overly selfish and demanding any of his time, I would love it if someone could just pass along that I (Sofia/Eli) am still around. I regret the fact that when I left Oasis the last time, it may not have been clear, as those of you who have known me for the last year and a half know what I went through and how much Pat helped push me to the good side. I regret the fact that I think I worried many by my delayed return, over a year since I had been here.

He's still on...

Facebook, but I don't think he's that active...
