whoa... I'm over-journaling

funnyflyby's picture

I have 2 things I want to ask:
1. Am I annoying people? Does anyone hate me? Sorry, I guess I'm all insecure or something but unless I can see their faces I always assume somebody hates me. I want reassurance.
2. Why so many guests on the site? Most of the time there are more guests than users. Hey, guests! Join up!
3. (okay, more than 2.) What are people's impressions of me? Be honest, I won't blame you if you think I'm a naïve idiot who over-journals. I think so, too.
4. If nobody comments on this, does it mean people hate me/didn't read it? I hate how insecure I am.
9. I'm sorry that this is my 4th journal today. I had a lot I just wanted to put out somewhere.
I like nine.

1. I'm not annoyed by you.
2. No idea why there are so many guests.
3. I don't think you're an idiot who over-journals. I post once a day, usually with rants or random ramblings!
4. No, I read a lot of journals but am lazy when it comes to adding comments.

Yes, you are

Yes, you are over-journalling. The effect will undoubtedly wear off over the next few days, which is why we're not calling you on it. One journal and a few to several comments a day is pretty normal here, although most people do less than that and a few do more. We might be annoyed by you if you had been doing this for weeks or something, but since you just joined, what, yesterday? it's totally okay. I strongly doubt whether anybody hates you.

I could be wrong, but I think maybe people appear as 'guests' when they are online and with this site open but not looking at it at the moment... Like if I go and look at my homework window on my computer without signing out or closing the Oasis window, I might appear as a guest...

So far my only impression of you is this: You're very young, new here, and delightfully cheerful and enthusiastic, willing to share anything and everything that comes to your mind. You're one of those people who will sound cheerful even when complaining. A sanguine personality, you have. Yes, you're a little bit naive, but that's not a bad thing in any way. No, you're not an idiot at all. Yes, you over-journal, but you'll get over it quickly as you become more accustomed to this site, how it works, and the trends followed by other users.

The question of comments plagues many of us - we want comments, but some of us rarely if ever get them. Super Duck always gets comments, just because she's Super Duck and everyone is hopelessly charmed by her sanguine personality. Sometimes, others of us feel like the Anti-Duck - we never seem to get any comments at all, and it bugs us. But often, people read and feel that they have nothing worthwhile to add. I, for one, have read every journal posted since I joined this site two months ago, because I have no life, and I'm sure I'm not the only reader. So don't feel too insecure about the comments.

1. Nope. W 2. The guests are

1. Nope.
2. The guests are lurkers, most likely, or users who didn't notice they didn't sign in. Everybody lurks before joining. Didn't you?
3. New kid. So, the "lots of journals" is understandable.
4. For 99.9% of the journals I read I want to comment, except I'm not sure what to say. So I don't. But I read a good majority of journals.

MacAvity, I think Super Duck's comment attracting ability comes from French Class Girl. And that quality to which a name can't be put... I'm sure you know what I mean.

I would like to think it's my AWESOMENESS that attracts comments

But it's probably FCG, like you said. Hahaha!

thank you

I really appreciate that, all of you. Thank you so much. And yeah, I lurked. The night before I read 75% of the discussion forum since like 7 years ago. Thank you so much.

1. Am I annoying people?

1. Am I annoying people? Does anyone hate me?

Your comment on the thread annoyed me, I was obviously kidding in my oxygen comment. This was hinted by the LOLOL I'M SO WITTY at the end of it. I don't hate you, that's a particularly strong word, especially for a stranger on the internet. However I personally find it a bit annoying when people flood the new entries with really SHORT journals (2-3 lines) that could have been combined into one longer journal. Especially poorly written ones. That isn't directed to you or anyone specific. I know I'm guilty of posting two journals in a row. By the way, if you hadn't noticed, I'm a hypocrite and I contradict myself a lot.

2. Why so many guests on the site? Most of the time there are more guests than users. Hey, guests! Join up!

Along with them being me on my ipod touch and stuff, there are also web crawlers and spiders who basically get stuff put into search engines, as well as some guests. I used to say this all the time in my journals ahah.

3.What are people's impressions of me? Be honest, I won't blame you if you think I'm a naïve idiot who over-journals. I think so, too.

I don't really care, there are only a few people I "like" on Oasis. You've been a member for only a few days, I kind of flagged you off as someone who will stop journaling in a month or something. We'll see.

4. If nobody comments on this, does it mean people hate me/didn't read it? I hate how insecure I am.

No, it means they are lazy/have nothing to say/don't know what to say. Not that they hate you.

Honestly, Oasis is not the place if you want attention or approval, I personally use Oasis to dump my thoughts and that's it. I'm not here to make friends or pen-pals or any of that. My self-esteem isn't related to a number of comments. I'd probably disable comments if I could, actually, that's not why I'm here.

I'm a bit pissed off for no reason today so sorry if I came across as a bitch but these are my honest answers, don't take any of it personally... I think Oasis dislikes me because I'm very prone to mood-swings and I write bitchy comments to people so don't take what I say as a reflection of Oasis as a whole.

edit : to answer the second part of your last question, I don't read all the entries, I can't be bothered with a lot of them... Some people's journals just aren't interesting to me. There. I said it (because no one else will).

nothing is permitted. everything is allowed.

Of the "2 Things"...

...what has happened to numbers 5 through 8?

But... I do agree: Nine is a very special number with quite interesting qualities.

Do you recall the character named Nine?

Sorry about that comment then, Magic Fantastic. I realized that might be obnoxious after I posted it, but it was too late. Also, I don't think I'll stop journaling in a month, but who knows? And elph: Thanks for the link! I love 9. It's such a cool number. I like most multiples of 3, which is a little OCD-ish but I don't really care.
I'll try to stop over-journaling.
I'm pretty sure it'll always say I'm signed in, because the dsi keeps me signed in. Thanks again!
