It Gets Better: Book Review

By Ambition 15

This book is one of the best I've read in a while. It Gets Better by Dan Savage and his partner Terry Miller is a book all about "coming out, overcoming bullying, and creating a life worth living."

Based off of the recent It Gets Better YouTube phenomenon, where celebrities, LGBT people and authorities made videos stating that it gets better. The book is a collection of essays by the people who did the videos, including the author and his husband.

This is a must read for any LGBTQ teen, whether your being bullied or not. It made me feel great every time I read it, knowing that there are others who went through exactly what I go through now.

The book is full of transgender, lesbian, bi, and gay stories, ranging from ages 19-66. Its an awesome book and the message stays the same thorughout - It Gets Better.

If you don't want to read the book check out the website to watch videos, read stories, and find resources.

It Gets Better isn't about passively waiting for your life to get better, but actively pursuing a better life for yourself and hearing from other people that as you push toward your dreams of a happier, more fulfilling life, that it can happen, because it has happened to many many people before you.

So, when does it get better? When you start taking steps toward making it better.

Library. Bookstore. Cover it in a paper bag...

There's lots of ways to keep your closet door shut and let some light in too!

Also... the It Gets Better Campaign is nice, but the opportunities for life improvement aren't exactly equal. Not everyone can make huge life changes they need. A lot of people can, but not everyone...

Even in those situations, though, you can take some steps.
