Last night was one of those times when I really wished I had queer or queer-friendly friends on Xbox LIVE. I logged into Xbox LIVE last night and immediately my youngest nephew (he's 10) invited me to his chat, so I accepted not noticing that it wasn't a private chat and he, in fact, has a bunch of his friends in the chat.

At some point they go down the usual route of throwing out, 'That's so gay' and 'No homo' in their conversations and I'm SO wanting to say something, but at that point my nephew had left the chat and I felt it would be a little awkward... so I left the chat and looked to the floor in shame. hah.

If I had SOMEONE there I would've said something. Like do a back and forth of me saying, "[Friend's name], I love you! No hetero." If the friend was a girl, then do something like, "You know, [Friend's name], I love Hugh Jackman. No hetero." and she could've come back with her own version.

Or I could've looked into their gaming history and if any of them had Assassin's Creed 2 in it, I could've pointed out that that kick ass son of a bitch Leonardo da Vinci was a big old homo!

Not that any of this would've likely accomplished anything, but maybe, just maybe it would've got them to stop and think about what they were saying for a minute.

With our public image as it

With our public image as it is I wouldn't hold your breath for this type of thing to stop any time soon. What we CAN change is how we present ourselves as a member of our group.

Then are you saying I need to change how I present myself? Do I really come off that bad? :P

I don't see how changing ourselves to fit the homophobes ideal is going to solve anything. If all the gay men stopped acting 'so faggy' and all the gay women stopped acting 'so butch', I doubt it would change much. The homophobes would still hate us and would still pass that hate onto their kids.

was in Brotherhood too. He's probably the second coolest character in any of them, second to Ezio of course...

I did not know that. So another game for me to be on the lookout for. Thanks for the heads up!

Believe me, I wanted to, but I'm also really awkward, and I didn't know these kids but they were my nephews friends, so I felt really weird about it. IDK.

And thanks, I'll add you when I get on tonight. But warning: I'm really awkward and pretty quiet. hah.

You're missing out

I have a few friends who have an Xbox 360, but even then we don't play together often, so I'm forced to play with strangers most of the time. I've had both positive and negative experiences... But when it's good, it's a ton of fun. :)
