I'm so awkward...right?

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh! I am so tired. I just got back from Italy and I am SO TIRED. I wasn't allowed to sleep on the plane back, but I did anyway and it didn't really help. I collapsed on my bed at 6:00. Then I woke up again. I have been up since 1:30 in the morning, during which time I have watched half a season of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," done 3 lessons, played Math Jeopardy, and gone to rehearsal. I am literally cramming sugar down my throat to stay awake.

So, I'm having a little bit of social trouble at rehearsal. All of the girls there are either bitchy or really confusing. Today, for example, a girl came up to me while I was thinking and just stared at me. Like, her face was two inches away from mine and she just came up and, well, stared.
Her eyes were REALLY blue.

Anyway, later all these girls from my group of characters were dancing and "serenading" each other to "Tale as Old as Time" and the leader started singing to me. She went and held hands with some other girls too but she always came back to me. The girls do this stuff all the time--massage each other, flirt with each other, touch each other (but only a little). However, they all seem to be straight. What's going on here? Are they flirting with me? Or are they just normal girls joking around?

Back to the blue-eyed girl. She's really pretty. She has long, shiny, wavy hair that's really dark chocolate brown and, as I said, her eyes are this brilliant blue. She goes around with another girl who could be her BFF or her girlfriend. I'm not really sure if she's lesbian or bi because she and her (girl?)friend seem to flirt with everybody. They go around with this boy who is either one of their brothers or flirting with them (again, I can't tell which--people are so confusing!). Anyway, she and her friend(?) and the boy are always together and one of them has a gay pride flag on their backpack. So one of them is gay. And maybe she is, right? I hope?

Damn I'm rambling! Well I could really use some advice so I'll just send this out into the great interweb and hope that I can eventually integrate myself into the strange culture of teenage girls.
PS: I guess the question I really have here is am I just weird and socially awkward or are these people actually acting strange? I never thought I'd be saying this but SOMEONE TELL ME HOW GIRLS WORK!

well, could you just ask her?

I mean, if you did it outright, as she walks around w/ some one who wears a pride flag and flirts with girls...who knows? but most likely, they are jsut doing it to be attractive to guys. for girls, sexuality is always, and has always been, more fluid than guys, no doubt about it. it's considered hot for girls to experiment.

Yep. For a really long time.

Yep. For a really long time. It was quite unsettling. Even more unsettling--she's not the first one to do that.

Ooh

Where'd you go in Italy?

Girls are confusing. People are confusing, as soon as you take any interest in them. Lots of girls just love to flirt and touch each other, regardless of orientation. If you can, participate! It might lead to something more, or it might just be fun. For an awkward person, though (I know 'cause I am one), participating in the flirtatious behavior of females is much easier said than done.
