Well, I have a confession to make:
I thought for a couple seconds that I could spread sanity among conservatives.
Needless to say, it didn't happen. That group I recently mentioned Veterans against Occupy Wall Street, blocked me, but then I thought, "maybe if I go on some other conservative page and respectfully debate, I can even spread a little sanity among them".
So I did that, I went on another conservative page, and there was a post about how Obama had to go, and how conservatives must fight for the future of the country to stop the spread of socialism, but that for that fight the stupid liberals will call the conservatives names like "bigot" and otherwise.
So I decided to leave a respectful dissenting comment: Hmmm... Democrats are hardly innocent, but can you honestly say Republicans have zero responsibility either? Remember that debt ceiling crisis?
The problem of refusing compromise exists on both sides. Honestly, I'm a liberal, but I recognize not all people in this country are, and that therefore the only way to even contemplate getting something done, you have to work with the other side, which I'm willing to do.
And blaming liberals for name-calling? The comment above me calls Obama a terrorist.
And then one of the responses by one of the guys who liked the page said Chad: obama is addressed by these "nicknames" based solely on who he really is, things he has done (blatantly or behind closed doors) and when you begin to realize (awaken) you'll see... he is just digging himself deeper. I don't dislike him because he's black... but ONLY because he's a narcissistic, anti-American, socialistic, terrorist...Who is a trader to our country and has no rights what-so-ever to take the place of honor as the President of the United States of America!! Just look at who this fool associates with! You can always judge a man by his company! He even said himself that he's loyal to the muslim brotherhood. Well I tell you...Mr.obama, I'm loyal to America and if it takes us all to stand together to see you thrown out on your butt (or shipped to Kenya)...so help us God, WE WILL!
The page administrator was slightly more sane, saying he wouldn't personally call Obama a terrorist, but that he did violate his oath to defend the Constitution of our country.
Like I said, only slightly more sane.
Needless to say, my journey ended after this one comment.
Now, I understand that people you disagree with can seem like douchebags. I watch The Colbert Report often, and he's a liberal guy, and he makes liberal jokes, and I think he's fucking hilarious.
Rush Limbaugh, on the other hand, is a conservative who makes conservative jokes, and to me, all it does for me is make him look like a douchebag. That's cause I disagree with him, I totally understand that to a conservative, Colbert probably looks like a douchebag.
So I make jokes a lot about conservative people, and sometimes I use words I wouldn't otherwise to describe these people, sometimes pretty creative ones, but I'm pretty sure one I would never use would be terrorist, either in joking, or especially, in an argument with a conservative. I don't know what your definition of terrorist is, but mine usually includes killing a lot of people.
As far as I know, Obama's never done, that, and neither has Rick Santorum of Mitt Romney.
Has he said he supported the Muslim Brotherhood? Frankly, I don't know, I've never heard that before, but it wouldn't be the first time a conservative made up a lie about Obama (like that he's a Muslim or wasn't born in the US).
And if he did, I'd have to see what he said. I can't say I totally agree with the Muslim Brotherhood, but from what I know about them, most of the time, they're actually a kind of good thing in the Middle East. They're a little radical by my standards, but they tend to be more secular and tolerant, and a very necessary counterweight to the Salafist movement, which is one that I find a lot scarier than the Brotherhood.
But debate over.
Pretty cool song.
Fuck me, I was gonna say some things, but then we were watching The King's Speech and I forgot what they were.
If all goes well, by Tuesday I'll be able to drive a car by myself.
