Well, I didn't actually see the speech myself, but from what I've heard, she didn't make it too clear. She was very ambiguous about it, leaving people hanging and asking each other, "Is she or isn't she?" That to me isn't a very successful coming out. If she wanted to come out, she should've just spit it out and made it abundantly clear without any room for doubt.
I don't think there is any question she came out, or publicly acknowledged her sexuality (albeit without saying the actual word gay or lesbian).
But she did go a little wonky when she started in on how she is private, and unlike other people she doesn't need to make her life into a big spectacle, etc., and that seemed to be where she annoyed a lot of people. Since she sort of dismissed everyone who paved the way before her as publicity-seeking freaks, as opposed to being dignified like her, etc.

...But what does an Onion News network joke ad about shaming fat kids have to do w/ jodie foster? I know that she came out during the golden globes. Big deal?
Mental wounds not healing, driving me insane, i'm goin' off the rails on a crazy train- the ozzman
No clue what you're seeing. Showed the Jodie Foster clip to me.
...A very lengthy onion news network ad.
Not sure why.
it's an Onion video I posted?
First of all, didn't everybody know she was a lesbian for a long time already? In the speech she said she had already come out long before.
I also don't see how she came out. She said absolutely nothing that could possibly be interpreted as even a slight, implicit hint to her sexual orientation, so I'm a bit lost on the whole situation.
I guess you really have to ver closely examine and dissect every word and gesture she made to find any link to homosexuality. And even then, she's a professional actress and can easily lead someone to a false conclusion.
And, above all that, who cares what Jodie Foster says? She's just an actress. It's not like she'll ever have a direct impact on our lives.
This isn't the speech she gave, but one clipped together to make her seem like an incoherent mess (they didn't have to deviate too far from the original).
She said she came out to everyone in her life, people she'd actually met, which was never in question. She just hadn't come out professionally.
There were always rumors, pictures, etc., sure. But never anything official.
I just didn't catch any part about coming out.
She did say "I did my coming a thousand years ago..." or somesuch.
But that is sort of the point of the video I posted, making fun of her word salad.
