Goin to Boston

That is a fun song to play on guitar. I've been trying to get good at playing the arpeggio at the end. I've been playing guitar so much lately that, picking up my bass yesterday, I was surprised at how fat the strings were. I'm going to need to sell this piece of shit Fender Squier sometime soon and get one that doesn't sound like shit, go out of tune after an hour, or have fucked up frets that don't play the notes right. If only I had $1,400 for the Peavey Devin Townsend Signature PXD Vicious 7 String Baritone. One day...

Not only is Dev a master of beautiful progressive composition, but his album Ziltoid the Omniscient is one of the best heavy metal albums I've heard. He's the only person who can actually make comedic extreme metal.

Anyway, I'm going to Boston next week for a school field trip. I'm going to share a room with three freshmen for some reason, but I know one of them and he's cool. None of this is interesting to whomever is reading, though, I assume. It doesn't seem very relevant.

Among the places/events I'll soon be attending is an Animal Collective concert this June. Deciding to go there required passing up a James Blake show, which was not easy at all to do; it was in fact extremely difficult. But my friends said that I should see Animal Collective and 4chan told me to go to James Blake, so both of those made me want to see AnCo. They have some trippy shows.

And I'll conclude this with an anecdote of a very strange occurrence from about an hour ago. I hooked up my stereo system again because it was disconnected, and it started receiving broadcasts from a Christian radio station. I don't have a radio receiver. Changing the volume and input of the preamp did nothing to affect it. Turns out RCA cables can pick up radio transmissions.

A good bass

to check out is the Sub 5 from Sterling by Music Man. A friend of mine has one and it sounds incredible and I think is around $279.00, with a active pickup. There's a four string version but he prefers to play a five string. Squier's aren't so bad but there are other options.

Cool vid btw!

Well I wasn't talking about bass guitar.

My bass is fine. But my other guitar is a piece of shit. I only paid $100 for it. I might upgrade to a Gibson sometime once I have enough money. Unless of course I decide to skip it until I can afford that Peavey Devin Townsend. I want to masturbate to the idea of owning that guitar it is so fucking awesome.

Some guitars are known to have that effect...

But, don't fret... go ahead and entertain that image! :)

Nice one.

And yeah, it seems Dev has a great taste in guitars.

elph's picture

Yeah...

But, you should pride yourself on being versatile!

You're to be cautioned, however, of the potential downside of becoming much too reliant on a singular source for needed external inspiration! :)

anarchist's picture

Well there's always Tool, but they're pretty much the same thing

except that they're five people working together to do what Devin can do on his own.

And there's Jimi Hendrix, but I've been in more of a deeper mood lately.

Hmm...

I'm a big tool fan.

That's cool.

What's your favorite album by them?

elph's picture

I didn't believe this was possible!

It seems that one shot way over his head! :)

jeff's picture

Well...

Big tools often do.

I don't know much Tool, as I only saw them live at Lollapalooza one time, either when their first album just came out, or hadn't been released yet. The Sober video was out at that time, though. Rage Against The Machine was on the same bill, and their first album wasn't out yet.

I'd be jealous of you,

but Tool's very early music wasn't really as good as it later became. I'm more a fan of their newer stuff; it's more unique.

elph's picture

Can you truly...

be this oblivious! :( / :)

anarchist's picture

Nah, I think I get it now,

but I'm more interested in the band because I'm anarchist and I like music.

And the joke wasn't very creative or unexpected.

jeff's picture

Hmm...

Isn't it difficult to have a guitar and not fret?!

That's another good one...

as well. :)

More likely it's corroded or poorly seated connectors...

on the cable ends. If there is a strong AM radio station in your area, a poor connection will "rectify" (demodulate) any radio signal the cable intercepts.

Try cleaning and re-seating all of the connections and the chances are very good that the radio signal will disappear. If that doesn't do the trick, try coiling any excess cable into a fairly tight loop (~3" diameter) and secure it from unwinding with tape or something else.

If that still fails to do the trick... go to Radio Shack and purchase a ferro-magnetic clamp (explain your problem to assistant); he/she'll know what you need. Just place the clamp around the cables near the end connections; some experimentation here may be required... it's likely there's only one offending cable and/or connection.

Problem remains? Then it'll probably prove to be due to a faulty/crumbling solder connection internal to the equipment...

anarchist's picture

Well my father found the problem for me.

The preamp manual said to use well-shielded RCA cables, so I switched them out with better ones. They're still picking up frequencies, but I can't hear it anymore unless I put my ear right up to the speaker and listen very carefully.

It's always nice...

...to have a handy family unit that can read! :)

Good thing,

You didn't come here this week. I had to stay home yesterday due to the snow. What was supposed to be a 4"-6" storm, wound up dumping 13"++(depending on where you were) inches of heavy/wet snow.
Where's your field trip taking you? Just curious.

jeff's picture

Wow...

That's like the opposite of Grindr...
