Here's just one excerpt from You Can Tell Just by Looking… And 20 Other Myths about LGBT Life and People: book published today, October 01.
To summarize: It's never easy to come out…
Let's hope that a review by Jeff will be forthcoming soon!
No reviews will be happening until 2014, most likely. Just interviews/videos/etc.
And this is really not my type of book to read. And I only review stuff I would read for personal enjoyment in the first place, save for some YA.
Plus, I disagree with the seeming flaw of their premise from the first few paragraphs I read, since it conflates broader societal acceptance of people coming out with an ease for individuals to come out... and then starts disproving its own manufactured theory.
Certainly didn't hook me. Plus, it *is* easier to come out now than 20, 30 or 40 years ago, no matter what the situation. It can still be difficult, but it is also easier. ;-)
"You don't know you're beautiful." - Harry Styles
The world of today (with all its remaining flaws) is so less intimidating for LGBT youth than could possibly be imagined a generation ago!
Nonetheless, "coming out" continues to remain a major generator of youthful angst... and, very likely, I suspect this book will only confirm this fact. :(
Don't need to read a book or an article to confirm that. ;-)
