a brief thought

Perhaps We Should Leave's picture

If to-morrow means nothing, and might not ever come, stop thinking about to-morrow. Life's short and meaningless, sure, but does it make you feel better to mope about it? Read a book. Play a game. Watch a movie. Play outside. See the woods. Examine a tree. Play with a puppy.

What is it about that idea that people have such a hard time with?

the koan: the life without pain belongs to the person who feels pain; the life of endless pain belongs to the person who feels no pain

so that's what enlightenment feels like...

addition two: 'While wandering a deserted beach at dawn, stagnant in my work, I saw a man in the distance bending and throwing as he walked the endless stretch toward me. As he came near, I could see that he was throwing starfish, abandoned on the sand by the tide, back into the sea. When he was close enough I asked him why he was working so hard at this strange task. He said that the sun would dry the starfish and they would die. I said to him that I thought he was foolish. There were thousands of starfish on miles and miles of beach. One man alone could never make a difference. He smiled as he picked up the next starfish. Hurling it far into the sea he said, "It makes a difference for this one." I abandoned my writing and spent the morning throwing starfish.'

Hmm....

Your advice directly contradicts Fleetwood Mac's, though?!?

The relevance of this post...

is downright Elphian, Jeff. Should I be worried? ;3

A man is defined not by his convictions, but by what he denies of himself.

Nah...

You said "Stop thinking about tomorrow."
They sing "Don't stop thinking about tomorrow."

That is a pretty coherent through line, no?
