more light (science fiction maybe? you tell me)

Perhaps We Should Leave's picture

and god looked upon the world as it was and said 'more light'

'more light for those who cannot see past their own noses'
'more light for those who have aught but the dark'
'more light for those who are afraid'
'more light for those who are ignorant'

and god looked upon the world as it could be and saw that it was good

and god saw the people who could not look beyond themselves
and god saw those who had aught but the dark
and god saw those who were afraid
and god saw those who were ignorant

and god flayed their flesh from their bones and their bones into dust were burned

for what was divine mercy but to bring the suffering to heaven
for what was divine mercy but to show the foolish the truth

and why not

for god looked upon the world and saw a world of his own design

for god saw that his design was one of selfishness and narcissism
for god saw that his design was one of darkness
for god saw that his design was one of fear
for god saw that his design was one of ignorance

and god looked upon the world and saw not that he was cruel

for what was divine mercy but the kindness of a being incomprehensible
for what was divine justice but the whim of a being without restraint

and those who prayed for light did so with hope of mercy and justice
and those who prayed for light understood not the strange movements of the divine

for god moved in mysterious ways
and the ones who prayed for light knew not that the light of a realm eternal was the light of an atom rent in two

Well...

Technically God didn't say more light, he said "Let there be light," since he made the heavens and the earth in complete darkness.

I know

The idea was that this is about the end of the world instead of the beginning.
