Hello Oasis! Has it really been a month? Time certainly does fly and circumstances really do change. There are about a million things I could write about for this column, but rather than just give a list of everything thats happened in the past four weeks, Ill talk about two things on my mind at the moment and give the overall impression theyve left on me.
Doctor or Professor?
Originally I was going to harp on about the fact that this was going to be the last article for a while that I would write from these here shores. However recent events have cast serious doubt on that assertion. It seems that the whole thing may go to hell because the person on my end whos helping me with this has the official title doctor instead of professor (Apparently for the guys issuing the work permit having a PhD isnt enough to act as someones referee). I can only hope that things work out but if it does it would be one of the extremely few times in my life when it has.
To use an American metaphor, I feel like the baseball player whos about to hit a home run when hes thrown an unhittable curve ball.
It does seem like every time I come close to getting the brass ring, the rug is pulled out from under me. But theres still hope. Ill have to wait and see.
By the way, which would you rather be: doctor or professor? Email your views to firstname.lastname@example.org!
In a change to our planned schedule
I was going to use this part of the article to talk about someone I know but then something occurred to me What if this person reads Oasis? Ever since the first article I wrote Ive noticed a marked change in the behaviour of the person. I never really thought anything of it until I sat down to write this part of the article. It could just be nothing but then again
So Ive decided not to talk about them here at least not yet.
Well Ive got to go now, theres an important exam tomorrow (you know the one, M!) and my immediate future may well be riding on it. See ya!
Feel free to email me at the address you should know by now!
