Suburban Myth

I lie between his sleeping arms and think of her.
Thoughts so vivid, I feel her soft skin as I feel
his arms and legs against my own.
Can I love them both?

Childhood lessons haunt my mind.
Playground teachings so elementary --
boy meets girl and they fall in love
somehow, someday, somewhere they live
Happily Ever After -- we believed.

Life was simpler then, if not happier,
when one and one made two, adults were gods,
majority ruled, and popular meant right.
We believed in Cooties and Santa Claus,
the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, too
