Reader from Holland thanks Oasis

Hi there!

Here's a message from Holland. I can't say how thrilled I was to discover Oasis a few months ago! It really helped to see so many boys and girls who are in the same position as I am. I had a lot of catching up to do, but I've read most of the Oasis' articles and it's great! Being a nineteen-year-old, I finally have the courage to come out a bit. I hope I'll be able to go to a meeting of the local organisation for gay and lesbian students. I hope it'll be a good thing to do.

Some Oasis readers might know that being gay isn't such a big deal in Holland. But do not think it is easier to come out. Nevertheless, many television programmes for young people take homosexuality as a subject, so that's a great development.

By the way, did you now that if it wasn't because of foreign countries gay people could be married in a few months. Unfortunately, some politicians think Holland shouldn't be the only country. You can agree on that or not, but it shows Holland's on the right track.

Well, anyway, I just wanted to say THANKS and to let you know there are Dutch Oasis readers as well.

All the best,

Reader glad to have "It's All I have..."

Dear Oasis...

Thanks for the story in Opinions and Editorials entitled "It's all I have..."

It's stories likes these that make the queer youth realize that we aren't freaks and that we deserve to be happy in life. The anonymous writer has given all of us a dose of truth...that person told how it WAS and how it is GOING TO BE.

Such optimism is all that we can wish for ourselves. I just wanted to thank you for being here for so many people....

Young lesbian from Scotland thanks Oasis

I am a 20-year-old lesbian in Scotland. When I decided to come out just before Christmas last year I was very unsure as to the likely attitudes of friends and family, and I just want to say a huge thank you to Oasis magazine for being there on the Internet. Oh, and to my university for having such a gullible computer department ...

It's the same old song...

I was writing in response to your Oasis webzine. You said in your [AOL] profile to write and ask to be on the writing staff. Well I am here and asking!

One question -- can I be straight?! I have a TREMENDOUS knowledge of the band and I feel I can offer the magazine a lot.

Desperate For Love

Greetings from Singapore!! ( You must be thinking, where the hell is Singapore......... well, I don't know either!)

It's nice to know that out of the million of people out there, there are many million "happy" people like me. Being in an all boys Roman Catholic school, there should not be any reason why I can find a good lover. I recently broke up with one guy who started [having sex with other people.] Isn't he a bitch? By the way, his name is [name, address and phone number deleted].

I am desperate for love, and many people whom I am extremely infatuated with are either not out of the closet yet, or happen to be straight. This pain has been killing me slowly, but I hope like many of the rest of people out there, I'll find my immortal beloved someday.
