By D.J. Belanger
Have you ever wished you were a star?
Twinkling, twinkling in the sky,
To be able to shine from afar
And be admired by the mortal eye.
To be so many diamonds in the sky
Or numerous like pebbles on the beach.
Up, up, above the world so high
So very, very far out of reach.
Whirling like pinwheels in space
On a lovely, clear night,
To shine upon a young gay man's troubled face
Reassuring him that an AIDS cure is within sight
And contribute to his rainbow dreams
That life is not as bad as it may seem.
Oh, to be a bright star, a light star,
A shining in the night star!
