Kasey Alexander Micheals
My name is "Kasey Alexander Micheals." However that is not my real name. I am 18 years old and attending college at University of Central Arkansas. By the way, I'm gay. This is my first time writing for Oasis magazine. I am white, brown hair (bleached to blond), blue/green eyes, and about 5' 6".
I am not completely out to all of my family and friends yet. I am not out to ANY of my family. I started to let a few of my friends in on my secret about a year ago. So far only about 5 people know about me. Being that I am from a small town, it makes me very nervous about coming out. Most of this is due to the "Southern Hospitality" that a lot of people seem to have.
I have been around acquaintances that were in the process of "gay-bashing." It hurt very much. I couldn't believe how close minded they were. Especially the people I have grown up with . A few years ago I would have considered all of them my friends. But if they really needed it I would still give them the shirt off of my back.
Many times people say that gays or lesbians are not worthy to be here on Earth and are nothing but evil. When I hear this I just want to ball up and cry. We cannot help the way that God has made us. We are only acting upon our emotions and feelings. I guess I should get to the point of my column. To all of you that are gay or lesbian, teen or adult, closeted or out, NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE EVER TELLS YOU, YOU ARE SPECIAL AND YOU ARE LOVED. YOU EACH PLAY A SPECIAL ROLE IN THIS WORLD. DON'T EVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT!!!!!
I have made it through my first column. I realize that it is not the best but I will get better with time. I am just glad that gay teens have a resource like Oasis to turn to for advice and support.
I do not have a picture to send yet due to the fact that I have to get my filmed developed from when I changed my hair color.
