As I write this, Ricky Martin's "Living La Vida Loca" is #1 on most of the popular music charts, and you know, it's so easy to replace key words in that song to make them sound totally gay. After all, the guy sings it is gay..... right?

You see, ever since the New Kids on the Block came out (on the music scene, you dirty minded sex maniac) in the early 90s (late 80s? I can't remember... and that's sad....), there's been an unwritten rule in popular culture that male teeny-bopper teen idols have demons in their closet, so to speak....

Of course, there is never any evidence to back this up... just theory upon rumor upon speculation. For example, one of the guys from N'Sync is from the Memphis area, and the rumors that fly around the Memphis gay scene could fill... well, an Oasis column. I (personally) have never seen any proof, but words just keep on flying. I can't remember which one of the guys it is, but I will say that in case their lawyers are reading this, I am NOT saying any of them are gay. It's a rumor.

Why do us, gay guys, try to out teen idols, anyway? Well, for starters, I think it has to do with that little lusty thing many of us have for them... you know, the "I'm not too thrilled with their singing, but damn, they'd be good in bed" thing. That's all it really is, when you think about it. We wouldn't want a committed relationship with any of these guys, no way... but maybe just one night..........

Sure, some of them may have girlfriends; the Backstreet Boys, in a Rolling Stone interview a while back, was appreciative of their gay fans but said that they think the gay community knows they like girls. Huh? We do? It's incredibly easy for any gay guy (famous or not) to have a "cover girlfriend": not necessarily a "fag hag", but a girl for gay guys to claim as a "girlfriend" when it's convenient or practical. Girlfriends, in all honesty, prove nothing.

Chances are, though, in like 2 or 3 years, we're going to see some Behind the Music special on these guys... and you know, they'll all come out and show off their gay lover. That's right: one gay lover for all the boy bands and teen idols. And that one lover will be me. (OK, it's wishful thinking. Sue me.)
