Two poems by Rachel Ramsay

Never believed in it
Love at first sight
A myth of the poets
Drunk on sex and wine
Why should I trust
The traveling bard
Who'll parrot Sappho
For a quarter or less
But, it turns out
Love does conquer all
Even my skepticism
And most certainly my heart

I was never a pacifist
But then I was never a fighter
So when my lip was split
And my nose was bloodied
It took me a second
To put up my guard
But then I
Gave that bastard a whipping
He'll not soon forget
So now I'm cooling my heels
And my fists
With a one week suspension
But at least he won't
Gay-bash again
Lest he risk another
Broken nose
